Accessibility statement
This site is used by people with disabilities, which is not an abstraction here given what the site is for. We build it to be usable with a keyboard, a screen reader, and at whatever text size you need.
What we aim for
We target the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA as our working standard. That is a target we measure against, not a certification we claim.
What is in place
- Semantic HTML: real headings in order, real lists, real landmarks, so a screen reader can navigate the page structure rather than a wall of text.
- A skip link to the main content as the first focusable element on every page.
- Full keyboard operation, with a visible focus indicator on every interactive element.
- Text contrast checked against the AA threshold, and no information carried by colour alone.
- Text that reflows without horizontal scrolling down to a 320 pixel viewport, and stays readable when zoomed to 200 percent.
- Form fields with associated labels, and errors described in text rather than by highlight only.
- Alternative text on images that carry meaning, and empty alt attributes on images that are decorative.
- No autoplaying media, and no motion that cannot be stopped.
Known limitations
We would rather list these than imply they do not exist.
- Third party components, including any embedded payment or form service, are not fully under our control. Where one falls short, we look for a replacement rather than wait.
- Older articles are brought up to standard as they come through the review cycle, so a small number may lag the current template.
- PDF documents, where we publish them, may not be fully tagged. Ask us and we will supply the content in an accessible format.
If something blocks you
Tell us what page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what you use to browse. We will fix it, and in the meantime we will get you the information or complete the task for you by another route. Call +1 (325) 324-5664 or write to us through the contact page. We aim to respond within one business day and to resolve or explain within ten.
